So yesterday I wrote all about outdoor learning spaces, and I couldn’t stop thinking about homemade sidewalk paint. I have a good recipe for sidewalk paint, that’s simple to whip up, and you can make lots of different colors. And by you, I mean your kid, while you quiz them on primary and secondary colors and have them measure the ingredients.
Materials:
- cornstarch
- water
- food coloring
1. Mix the cornstarch and water together very well.
2. Divide into 4 cups.
3. Add 8-10 drops of food coloring to each cup, either straight up from the bottle or mix ‘em to create your own colors.
4. Paint on sidewalk/driveway/patio/rocks/trees/squirrels
Hint: The paint will look very watery until it dries, and then it will lighten and brighten up significantly. You can see the difference above.
Hey, fellow creative kid-lovers. Why don't you join me on Facebook?

It’s always interesting to me to see who gets involved when we break out the projects. Christian and I were painting almost as much as Fen did. Beckett did some splattering- but still got into it. You get those crazy teens out painting the sidewalks of NY
